Overview

The Power BI Purchases app delivers purchasing analytics for executives, procurement teams and purchasing agents. It has reports on spending, vendor performance, budgets and purchasing trends. The app page lists the reports and is the best starting point.

The reports fall into groups. Overview and breakdown: Purchases Overview, Purchases Decomposition, and Purchases by Item, Location, Purchaser and Vendor. Time-based: Daily Purchases, Moving Averages, Moving Annual Total, Period-Over-Period, Year-Over-Year and Actual vs. Budget. Forward-looking and diagnostic: Purchase Forecasting and Key Purchase Influencers. Quotes, returns and vendors: Purchase Quote Overview, Purchases Return Overview and Vendor Quality Analysis.

Two reference pages sit behind the reports. The semantic model page describes the star schema of fact and dimension tables. The KPIs and measures page explains the calculations. Use them when you need to know where a figure comes from.

Key points

  • The app serves executives, procurement teams and purchasing agents with reports on spending, vendor performance, budgets and trends.
  • The semantic model uses a star schema. Facts are purchase budgets, invoices, credit memos and value entries. Dimensions are vendors, items, projects and purchasers.
  • Trend reports: Moving Annual Total covers the last 12 months, Moving Averages uses 30-day averages, and Period-Over-Period and Year-Over-Year compare against earlier periods.
  • Actual vs. Budget reports budget amount variance and variance % by item category.
  • Purchase Forecasting predicts three months ahead from six months of history, using monthly seasonality, with vendor and item category dimensions.
  • Key Purchase Influencers uses the Key Influencers visual and a Top Segments tab for AI-driven analysis of purchase drivers.
  • Purchases Return Overview and Vendor Quality Analysis cover return rates, credits, spend reliance, item reliance, discount % and single-supplier items.
  • Purchases Overview shows outstanding invoices, outstanding orders and amounts received but not invoiced. Purchase Quote Overview tracks quote counts, quantities and amounts.
