Overview

Erik Hougaard shows how to add a report region to a spreadsheet in the Advanced Spreadsheets and reporting app for Business Central. In the region you choose the report, set a maximum number of rows and decide whether to include headers. The demo uses the customer top 10 report (report 111).

He then builds a donut chart of top customers from the report data, with customer names as categories. The report is recalculated each time the spreadsheet is opened, and a button recalculates it on demand. Filters work like normal report filters and can reference spreadsheet cells. Query regions work in a similar way. The app is free to use in a Cloud Sandbox.

Key points

  • A report region embeds report data in the spreadsheet. You pick the report, a maximum number of rows, and whether to include headers.
  • The demo uses report 111 (customer top 10) as the data source.
  • A donut chart of top customers was built from the report data, with categories set to customer names.
  • The report is recalculated every time the spreadsheet is opened, and a button recalculates it manually.
  • Filters on an embedded report work like normal report filters, and the video says they can reference cells in the spreadsheet. This was mentioned but not fully demonstrated.
  • Query regions let you pull data from a query that calculates something into the spreadsheet.
  • The app is free to use in a Cloud Sandbox, so you can try it there.
