Overview
The video shows the Contoso demo data tool with a new look and a service management model. Configuration pages are simpler because shared details such as sales tax, company type and currency now sit in a common model. The tool can generate full setup and demo data, or setup data only.
Two scenarios are demonstrated. The first is an ad hoc repair: a service order for an item not originally sold as a service item, with troubleshooting, fault resolution codes, replacement items, the technician task list, hours registration, and posting with ship and invoice. The second is a service contract: service items are created automatically when a sales order is posted, a contract is created from a template, signed and invoiced, service orders are created from the contract, and resources are allocated on the dispatch board. The video also says the tool is extensible for partners.
Key points
- The Contoso demo tool now includes a service management model covering ad hoc repairs and service contracts.
- Configuration pages are simpler; shared settings such as sales tax, company type and currency moved into a common model.
- Two generation modes: full setup plus demo data (master data and transactions), or setup data only (number series and setups, no master data).
- Service items are created automatically when a sales order is posted, which lets you manage service contracts for them.
- Service contracts can be created from templates, including a prepayment pattern with monthly repair orders; signing can generate invoices, including the remainder of the month.
- Service orders can be created from a contract for the valid period, for example monthly maintenance orders.
- The dispatch board allocates service orders to resources, with filtering by zones or skills; technicians register actual hours, which may differ from the plan.
