Overview

This section groups the documentation for running Business Central on your own infrastructure. It is split into three subtopics: Deployment, Administration and Upgrade. Deployment covers planning, component topology, installing with Setup, service accounts, certificates and multitenant databases. Administration covers the tools and configuration needed to operate an environment. Upgrade covers the routes and steps for moving to a newer version.

One page sits directly in the hub: a guide to migrating legacy help to the Business Central format. It describes reusing existing web content, converting PDFs or documents to Markdown, and deploying to websites that work with Business Central help configuration. It also mentions tooltip support.

For a new environment, start with Deployment to plan and install, then move to Administration for configuration and monitoring. If you already run an earlier version, start with Upgrade to find the supported path to your target version and what to check first.

Key points

  • Deployment (63 pages): planning, component topology, installing with Setup, service account provisioning, certificates, multitenant databases and support lifecycle.
  • Deployment subtopics also cover web server, database, mobile app, topologies and updates.
  • Administration (38 pages): Administration Shell and Administration Center, server, web server and database configuration, authentication, encryption and monitoring.
  • Administration integrations include Entra ID, Excel, Outlook, Key Vault and Dynamics 365 Sales.
  • Upgrade (113 pages): supported upgrade paths, per-release guides from v14 through v29, known issues, and conversion and table migration articles.
  • Upgrade pages help decide which route reaches a target version and what to check first.
  • The hub’s own page explains migrating legacy help: reuse web content, convert PDFs or documents to Markdown, and deploy to a website that integrates with help configuration.
