Overview
The video explains why analysis mode is getting further investment and demos how to ship analysis views from AL apps. The workflow is to set up a view in Business Central, export it as JSON, and reference that file from a page extension or source page using the definition file property.
The demo then shows the result in a deployed environment. Shipped views appear read-only with a locked icon, users can duplicate them to get editable copies, and users can hide views through personalization. The presenter also announces built-in analysis views for sales, finance, inventory and purchasing pages, coming in 28.x.
Key points
- Analysis views can be exported from Business Central as JSON files (Share > Export definition) and packaged in AL apps through page extensions, page customizations or source pages.
- Page extensions use a definition file property that points to the exported JSON file; caption, tooltip and visibility properties set in AL override the settings in the JSON file.
- Views can be added to page customizations assigned to a profile or profile extension, so they are available only to users with that role.
- Views shipped in an app are read-only and show a locked icon; the filter pane is removed, and users can duplicate a view to edit the copy.
- Users can add a description to a view through the rename action in analysis mode; it shows as a tooltip.
- Users can hide views they do not need through personalization mode.
- Built-in analysis views are coming in 28.x for sales orders, change log entries, user lists, GL register, fixed asset ledgers and item ledger entries (inventory and purchasing).
