Manufacturing version 27: use Gitlens & Github BC code history to detect the code differences
Covers the manufacturing report changes in Business Central version 27 (2025 Wave 2) and shows how to find code differences between versions using Stefan Maron's BC code history repository on GitHub with the GitLens extension in Visual Studio Code. In the Where Used Top Level report, the RDLC layout is obsolete and Excel is now the default. In Quantity Explosion of BOM, RDLC is obsolete and the default layout is Word, with Word and Excel as the main layouts.

Overview
The video covers what changed in the manufacturing module reports in version 27, including word layouts, Excel layouts, some obsoletions and documentation updates. The presenter shows how to clone the BC code history repository by MVP Stefan Maron, open the manufacturing reports, install GitLens in Visual Studio Code, and compare version 26 and 27 through file history.
The presenter then runs the Where Used report and reviews code changes in it and in Quantity Explosion of BOM. In these reports Microsoft removed the default RDLC layout and made Excel the default. The video ends with the manufacturing analytics site, ad hoc analysis on ledger pages and opening list pages in Excel.
Key points
- Stefan Maron’s GitHub BC code history repository has branches per country and for W1, covering versions 15 through 27.
- GitLens in Visual Studio Code adds file history and diffs, so you can compare versions 26 and 27 of a report file.
- In version 27 the Where Used Top Level report dropped its default RDLC layout and now defaults to Excel. The RDLC layout is marked obsolete, and new labels support the Excel layout.
- Quantity Explosion of BOM now defaults to the Word layout. Its RDLC layout is obsolete, a new indent level column was added, and Word and Excel are now the main layouts.
- When the Where Used Top Level report runs, only Download appears, so there is no in-browser report viewer. The RDLC layout may still appear if the installation is not clean.
- Send To lets you get only the report’s data set, without layout rendering.
- Reports covered include Where Used Top Level, Quantity Explosion of BOM, Production Order Work in Progress, Production Order Statistics, and the new Production Order List.
