Overview

The video covers what is new in data analysis for the 2026 release wave 2. In analysis mode, the system fields created by, created on, modified by and modified on can now be used in analysis tabs and views. They exist on all tables but were not visible in analysis mode before. The demos use the sales orders list (modified by and modified at, to see who last touched an order) and the customer list (created by, modified by).

The second part covers bookmarking. List views and saved filters can be bookmarked to the role center. Bookmarking an analysis tab or analysis view is announced for a future minor version (29.x). The video also shows system audit fields added to pages in the page designer for profiles, and bookmarked views added to a role center at profile level. The presenter points to aka.ms/bc-analytics, section ad hoc data analysis, for resources.

Key points

  • System fields (created by, created on, modified by, modified on) are now always available in the columns menu in analysis mode, even if the list page does not show them.
  • Example: add modified by and modified at to the sales orders list in analysis mode to see which salesperson last touched an order.
  • Example: on the customer list, add created by or modified by to get history on customers.
  • List views and saved filters can be bookmarked so users navigate to them directly from the role center.
  • Bookmarking an analysis tab or analysis view is announced for version 29.x, hopefully one of the first minor versions, and is not in the major release.
  • In the page designer for profiles, system audit fields can be added to pages such as cards and lists.
  • Bookmarked analysis views and list views can be added to a role center at profile level, so all users of that profile see them.

As heard in the captions. A name that matches one object page by exact type and name links to it; the others stay as named.

Not found in BC28-30: table “Sales Orders”, page “Sales Order Card”.

Quotes

  • 0:17 “in analysis mode, two new features. The first is that you can now use system or fields in your analysis tabs or views.”
  • 0:32 “ability to bookmark an analysis tab. So, we have added these what’s called so-called system fields, created by, created on, modified by, modified on.”
  • 1:49 “Now, coming in version 29.x, hopefully here in the one of the first minor versions, is ability to bookmark an analysis tab or analysis”
  • 2:24 “a lots of both list views and analysis views are for a lot of users considered mini reports. And and therefore it it it’s”
  • 3:30 “you can now use the system audit fields to add them to pages. And also, you can bookmark the bookmarking I just showed for”
  • 4:50 “the landing page is as always aka.ms/bc-analytics, and then scroll down to ad hoc data analysis, and here you find everything for analysis mode,”

Disclaimers in the video

  • 0:32 not-in-this-release: ability to bookmark an analysis tab. So, we have added these what’s called so-called system fields, created by, created on, modified by, modified on. Um I think hm I actually quite a few years ago. They exist on all tables in Business Central, but until now they were not kind of visible um into analysis mode, but but we have remedied that. So, no matter if these fields are shown on the list page, they will also be always be available in uh the columns menu in analysis mode. So, in this example I have taken the sales orders list and added uh modified by and modified at. That could for instance be a quick we wait to see which salesperson was the last one touching a sales order. So, that’s a very easy way to to do that in analysis mode, even if those fields are not shown on the sales order list. Here’s another example on the customer list where I did created by or modified by. So, that could be some history um here not on the sales order, but on the customer, but the same thing applies. Now, coming in version 29.x,
  • 1:49 coming-later: coming in version 29.x, hopefully here in the one of the first minor versions, is ability to bookmark an analysis tab or analysis view.
