Overview

The video, aimed at administrators, covers two new features and new auditing documentation for financial reporting in 2025 release wave 1. The first feature is telemetry on how financial reports are used and how report definitions change over their lifecycle. It is available in Application Insights and in Microsoft Purview, where Business Central data is currently in preview.

The second part is about auditing changes to report row and column definitions. It covers the change log, which needs setup on specific tables, and sensitive field monitoring, which adds email notifications. It also shows the data analysis feature used to view changes by definition or by user, and points to new documentation on permissions, troubleshooting and FAQs.

Key points

  • The release has two new features: telemetry on financial report usage and on report definition lifecycle changes, and the same events in Microsoft Purview.
  • Telemetry logs report usage, such as viewing a report, printing it to PDF, or opening it with an Excel layout. It also logs author actions on row, column and report definitions, so you can see who ran which reports and who changed which definitions.
  • The telemetry events appear in Application Insights, where retention depends on your telemetry retention policy. The presenter recommends querying by event IDs rather than by message text.
  • Similar events will eventually surface in Microsoft Purview. Business Central data in Microsoft Purview is currently in preview.
  • A new Microsoft Learn article, Audit changes to financial reporting, lists the report definition tables on which you need to set up change log.
  • Sensitive field monitoring is described as the deluxe version of change log. It gives you the change log plus email notifications when someone changes a value.
  • You can open the change log page in analysis mode and pivot the data, either by which definition changed or by who changed what and when.
