Overview

The video covers how Business Central can notify users when critical background processes such as job queues stop or fail. Administrators use an assisted setup guide with three steps: choose recipients, choose notification methods (in-product or external), and set frequency thresholds.

Users see a notification strip in their role center and three extra job queue tiles for failed, in-progress and pending tasks. Admins can see other users’ job queue tasks. External notifications use the job queue task failed business event with a Power Automate template, and the video also covers new job queue APIs. The external part is in preview because business events are still in preview.

Key points

  • The assisted setup guide has three steps: select notification recipients, choose notification methods (in-product or external), and set frequency thresholds.
  • Thresholds reduce notification fatigue for transient issues. For example, you can get notified only after a job fails three to five times instead of on every failure.
  • The in-product notification strip in the role center lets users show details, inspect failed tasks, restart jobs manually, and disable notifications in My Settings.
  • Three role center tiles show tasks failed, in progress, and pending or waiting. Color-coded indicators follow the admin’s failed-task thresholds.
  • Designated job queue notification administrators see their own job queue tasks and those of other users.
  • External notifications use the job queue task failed business event and a Power Automate template that can email through Outlook. This part is in preview because business events are in preview.
  • New APIs for job queue entries (with a restart bound action) and job queue log entries can be used from Power Automate flows.
