Overview

Quality management setup covers the configuration needed before inspections can run. The setup and configuration page is the starting point. It covers prerequisites, permission sets, base data, assisted setup, and general settings such as inspection creation, search criteria, picture handling, and generation rule trigger defaults.

The other pages build on that base. Inspection results define the possible outcomes (for example Pass, Fail, In Progress) and how they behave. Inspection templates define the tests, allowable values, result conditions, and sample sources. Generation rules link templates to business transactions such as purchase receipts, production output, and warehouse movements, so inspections are created automatically. Workflows then react to inspection events, for example by blocking lots, moving inventory, or posting negative adjustments.

A practical order is: complete setup and permissions, define results, create templates, set up generation rules, then add workflows for nonconforming items.

Key points

  • Setup page covers prerequisites, permission sets, base data configuration, and assisted setup.
  • General settings include inspection creation options, inspection search criteria, certificate of analysis contact, picture handling, and generation rule trigger defaults.
  • Inspection results such as Pass, Fail, and In Progress can be extended with custom results, with settings for evaluation sequence, visibility, categories, and lot blocking conditions.
  • Inspection templates hold a code and description, test value types, allowable values, result conditions, and sample source configuration; templates can be copied.
  • Generation rules use sort order, template-to-source mapping, and condition, item, and attribute filters, plus an activation trigger.
  • Generation rules can create inspections from purchase receipts, production output, and warehouse movements.
  • Workflows automate lot blocking and unblocking, inventory movement, negative adjustments, and reinspection creation, based on result code conditions.
