Overview
The 55-minute recording of the live opening of the Business Central 2025 release wave 1 launch event. It begins with the agent story: the sales order agent is in public preview and available in more countries, agents are billed in consumption units called messages, and a payables agent is demoed in private preview with a public preview announced for later in the year.
It then goes through application features (Copilot autofill and summarize, sustainability scope 3 emissions, e-documents, production order blocking and cancel/reopen, Power BI reports, Shopify, subscription billing, Field Service sync). It ends with admin and developer topics: flexible update scheduling, unified extension management, tenant discovery endpoint, customer-managed keys, cost adjustment, posting concurrency, and AL-Go for GitHub.
Key points
- Sales order agent is in public preview and has expanded to more countries, including Canada, United States, Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand. More regions are to follow.
- Agents are billed by consumption in units called messages, available as prepaid capacity packs or pay-as-you-go. The billing capability is in private preview.
- Payables agent was demoed in private preview. It reads PDF invoices, allocates charges to accounts and handles deferral codes. A public preview is announced for later this year.
- Flexible update management lets customers reschedule environment updates to available versions, and partners can create new environments from any available version. Updates cannot be postponed beyond the grace period.
- Admin center shows global, per-tenant and dev extensions in one view. A tenant discovery endpoint lets partners find all tenants and environments that granted access to their app.
- Posting tables were refactored for concurrency. Five parallel batches of 1,000 invoices reached 4.7 invoices per second, against about 1 per second for a single batch. Results vary by database.
- Developer changes include moving fields and tables between extensions, packaging resources with app code, API call mocking, a Power BI immersive page type, and AL-Go for GitHub no longer rebuilding unchanged apps.
