Overview
The video walks through product information management updates in the Shopify connector. It covers what is exported from Business Central to Shopify: item variant images, item attributes as product options, and automatic assignment to collections based on item categories, including collections used for tax override.
It then shows the “add item as Shopify variant” function, which presents a flat Business Central item list as variants with options in Shopify, with per-variant prices synchronized. Last, it shows importing products from Shopify, where images are synchronized and marketing text can be brought in when a toggle on the Shopify shop card is enabled.
Key points
- Item variants can have images, and these are exported to Shopify with the product so each variant shows its own image in the online store.
- The item attributes setup page gets a new column for choosing which attributes export as Shopify options. It only shows when the Shopify connector is installed with stores connected.
- Not every attribute is exported as an option. Some are only added to the product description.
- Custom product collections are configured on the Shopify shop card. You can start by importing collections from Shopify, then use rules such as item category to decide which collections items are assigned to on export.
- Items with reduced or non-standard tax rates can be put in a collection configured as tax override, so Shopify applies the correct tax.
- The ‘add item as Shopify variant’ function presents separate Business Central items as variants of a parent item in Shopify. This is useful when you keep a flat item list, for example because assembly BOMs can only be connected to the parent item. Each item keeps its own price, so variant prices can differ.
- Importing products from Shopify synchronizes images. Marketing text is also imported when the marketing text toggle is enabled on the Shopify shop card.
