What's New in Sustainability: Measure All Gasses as Carbon Equivalents (2025 release wave 2)
Business Central sustainability feature (2025 release wave 2) that lets an organization measure all greenhouse gases as carbon equivalents instead of entering emission factors per gas. Covers the Sustainability Setup toggle, default factor of 1, and the caption changes across pages, shown in a before and after demo.

Overview
The video explains a sustainability setting that lets users track all gas emissions as carbon equivalents. This addresses a common problem: emission factors are often available for carbon dioxide but not for other gases such as methane. With the setting on, users enter only carbon equivalent values rather than a factor for each gas.
The presenter describes the two models an organization can choose between, enables the setting in Sustainability Setup, and demonstrates the before and after. Captions change on the pages, and emission factors are pre-configured with a carbon equivalent value of 1.
Key points
- The new field ‘Use all emissions as a carbon equivalent’ is in the Sustainability Setup page.
- Two models exist: detailed per-gas emission tracking (the previous model), or carbon equivalents only. Behavior depends on how you set it up.
- When the setting is enabled, emission factors’ carbon equivalent factors are automatically set to 1, the default value. Without the setting, each gas needs its own carbon equivalent factor.
- Captions change from gas-specific labels (e.g. ‘default emission for CH4’, ‘default metan’) to carbon equivalent labels (e.g. ‘carbon equivalent for CH4’, ‘default carbon equivalent for metan’).
- The caption changes appear in sustainability journals, purchase documents, sustainability ledger entries, items and resources.
- The motivation is that emission factors are often unavailable for each individual gas, such as methane. The feature simplifies data entry and standardizes emission reporting.
- The demo shows the item card, a purchase invoice and ledger entries before and after the setting is enabled.

Quotes
- 0:05 “In this session I will show you new feature in sustainability and this is enable to measure all gases as a carbon equivalent”
- 0:33 “Very often you cannot find emission factors for each of gases. For example, you can find for carbon but not for metan”
- 1:00 “So now we will simplify this access to emission factors because we are asking if you set up this way only for carbo equivalent”
- 1:24 “if you want to use previous model where you wanted to use all emissions uh as accurate emissions fac emissions for each of gases”
- 2:04 “we will have a changes in all your pages. So all your page will show different uh captions for emissions”
- 2:36 “everywhere you will see new caption and you need to enter only carbon equivalents for these gases”
- 4:00 “all of them will be set up as a one because this is default value”
