Overview
A 17-minute overview from the Business Central team covering supply chain features in the 2026 release wave 1, from procurement through production and distribution. Chapters cover quality management, drop shipment, purchase order matching, document management, journal approvals, product information, manufacturing and subcontracting.
Several features are demoed, including drop shipment purchase creation, purchase order matching, sending posted sales documents, journal batch approvals, item tracking on output journals and subcontracting. Subcontracting is described as arriving later in the season, not on April 1-2.
Key points
- Drop shipment: more ways to create purchase documents for drop shipment sales documents, a new drop shipment toggle on lines created from Create Purchase Order, more flexible posting order (post receipt and invoice without waiting for the customer invoice), and undo support.
- Purchase order matching: invoices received before goods can be linked to purchase orders, one invoice line can link to multiple orders and receipts, and posting can mark the order as received. A setting controls this per document, since not all documents allow these scenarios.
- Get receipt lines now support filters on vendor order, vendor shipment and vendor item number fields; similar filtering is added for get shipment and service shipment lines.
- Approvals now cover item journals and requisition worksheets through workflow templates, for batches only and not lines (performance). Also usable via Power Automate.
- Item tracking works on manufacturing output journals. With serial tracking, explode routing splits the last output operation into journal lines with quantity one each.
- WIP posting no longer needs a blank-location line in inventory posting setup. Capacity entries post using the production order line location, allowing a different WIP account per location.
- Purchase quotes can be created without a vendor (contact still required). The vendor is created on conversion to an order, which needs a vendor template.
