Overview

The Fixed assets section covers the lifecycle of capital assets in Business Central. Manage fixed assets gives the lifecycle overview: acquisition, depreciation, maintenance, insurance, revaluation, impairment and disposal. Set up fixed assets lists what is required: depreciation configuration, G/L account mappings, and optional insurance, maintenance and user-defined depreciation methods.

The task pages follow the lifecycle. Acquire fixed assets covers recording acquisition costs through purchase orders, journals or assisted workflows. Depreciate or amortize FA covers automatic and manual depreciation. Depreciation methods for fixed assets describes the eight available methods. Revalue Fixed Assets covers appreciation, write-down and indexation. The Troubleshooting FA Ledger Entries extension handles rounding problems in ledger entries.

Start with Manage fixed assets, then Set up fixed assets before posting anything. The Fixed assets analytics subtopic (33 pages) covers Data Analysis on FA and GL ledger entries, standard and Excel reports, and legacy reports slated for removal.
