Overview
The video explains how amount fields behave in Business Central. By default, you type debit and credit amounts in the same field and use a sign in front of the amount to show which one it is, depending on the scenario.
It then demonstrates changing the display on the General Ledger Setup page. Selecting the debit and credit option shows separate debit and credit amount fields along with local currency counterparts, which gives a clearer view of how the fields balance. The setting applies to all users in the company, not only the current user.
Key points
- By default, amounts on journals and documents go into one field for both debit and credit. A sign in front of the amount sets which one it is.
- By default, an Amount field and an Amount in local currency field are shown.
- You change the display with the Show amounts field on the General Ledger Setup page. Use Show more on the General FastTab to find it.
- Choosing ‘Debit and credit only’ shows separate debit amount and credit amount fields plus their local currency counterparts.
- In the General Journal, the separate debit and credit fields make it easier to see when entries balance and when they don’t.
- The setting applies company-wide to all users, not just the current user.
